Jon Rolf Fryxell, 70, of Burnsville, MN died on Sunday January 31, 2016. Jon, son of Vera and Burt Fryxell, passed away peacefully with loved ones at his side after a sudden stroke in Naples, FL. Jon is survived by his two sons Eric (41) and Matt (37). He is also survived by three grandchildren, Evan (10), Rylan (6) and Claire (4). His wife, Kathleen Fryxell passed away in 2004.
Jon spent most of his childhood growing up with his sister Tina in Houghton, MI where he developed his passion for playing football golf, and in particular basketball which allowed him to make the underclass basketball team in college. The Upper Peninsula (UP) is also where he met many lifelong friends and his wife, Kathleen. Jon fully admitted that he “out kicked” his coverage with Kathleen. Jon grew extremely close with Kathleen’s family, including brothers John and Michael over the years.
With his father’s previous role as a Professor at University of Wisconsin-Madison and an opportunity to continue playing basketball, UW became his home in his early adult years. Jon received both an undergraduate and graduate degrees and was also drafted into the Army.
Jon and Kathy raised their family in Burnsville, MN where they were surrounded by fantastic neighbors that ultimately turned into some of his closest friends. He was fortunate enough to have retired from 3M after 30 years. Jon formed lifelong friendships with many of his colleagues also appreciated the professional and personal support they provided.
Jon lived by a simple motto – he loved life. Jon focused on having fun, his friends, and his family. He felt blessed to have formed so many good friendships, originating from childhood through retirement, and always held a special place in his heart for everyone that supported his family during Kathleen’s battle with cancer.
Jon “kept the peddle down” on having fun in his retirement years. The summers in Burnsville, MN were focused on golf, friends & family, and cocktail hour. He spent the winters in Naples, FL with an expanded set of friends and loved ones enjoying the weather, traveling, and cocktail hour.
Jon was blessed with 3 grandchildren, developing a special appreciation for being a grandpa and all that came with that role. He adored Dawn and Heather, wives of Eric and Matt respectfully, for their compassion they provided and as approval source for home décor and wardrobe dilemmas.
Jon had a special relationship with his two sons, Eric and Matt. From childhood through his passing, he provided countless life lessons, advice, support, and deep friendship. He will be greatly missed by everyone who was touched by his presence.
