KEWEENAW BAY - Robert Henry Bohnsack, 71, died on June 17, 2015, at the Omega House in Houghton from a lengthly illness.
He was born on October 1, 1943, in Detroit to Robert and Irene (Spaczynski) Bohnsack.
He grew up in the suburb of Dearborn, graduating from Dearborn High School in 1962. The following fall, he enrolled at Michigan Tech.
On September 17, 1966, Bob was united in marriage to Christine Fryxell, known to many as Tina, at Trinity Church Episcopal in Houghton.
After Bob graduated from Tech in 1967, they began their great adventure as Bob served nearly 9 years in the U. S. Air Force.
In 1976, they left the Air Force and moved to Madison, Wisconsin, where Bob held positions at the U. S. Forest Products Laboratory, and later Nicolet Instrument Corporation.
They returned to Houghton in 1984 when Bob became the Academic Advisor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Michigan Tech.
By mid-2004, Tina and Bob were retired to their little home on Keweenaw Bay, which they loved and enjoyed so much.
Bob was a member of the L'Anse United Methodist Church, and was a six year veteran of Cardiac Rehabilitation at Portage Hospital.
These two groups of extraordinary people lifted him up in the dark days since Tina's untimely and unexpected death in March 2015.
Bob is survived by his children, Michael Bohnsack of Morrisville, North Carolina, Heather Miller (James) of Portage, Indiana, and Steven Bohnsack (Kerry) of Maple Grove, Minnesota. He was blessed to have five wonderful grandchildren, Mitchell Miller, Fletcher Miller, Paisley Miller, Mark Bohnsack, and Ryan Bohnsack. He is also survived by two much older sisters, Roberta Hudson (Daniel) of Waterford Township, Michigan and Elaine Rosati of Canton, Michigan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife, Tina; and a son, Mark.
A memorial service for Robert will be held 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2015, at the L'Anse United Methodist Church.
Friends may call on Saturday, June 20, 2015, from 4 p.m. until time of services at the Church.
Burial will be at the Keweenaw Bay Cemetery at a later time.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, the family suggests that memorial be given to the Omega House in Houghton, or to the L'Anse United Methodist Church in memory of Robert H. Bohnsack.
