Rodney Fryxell, of Batavia, Illinois, formerly of Moline, Illinois, died Sunday, September 11, 2011, two days before his 94th birthday, at Michaelson Health Center at The Holmstad Retirement Center, Batavia.
Services are 10 a.m. Friday, September 30, 2011, in the chapel at Michaelson Health Center, Batavia. Graveside services and burial are 9:30 a.m. Saturday, October 1, 2011, at Riverside Cemetery, Moline. Memorials may be made to the Good Samaritan Fund at the Holmstad Retirement Center. Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, is in charge of arrangements.
John Rodney Fryxell was born September 13, 1917, in Moline, Illinois, the son of Arthur Linus and Lillian Zeraphia Johnson Fryxell. He married Dorothea Arlene Anderson in April 24, 1948, in Moline. She died May 9, 1987.
Rodney was a graduate of Moline High School and Augustana College. He was a radio operator and navigator in the Army Air Corps in World War II, serving in London, Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Sicily, Naples, Rome, Normandy, the Rhineland, Central Europe and Northern France. He worked for John Deere Harvester in East Moline, Illinois, for 40 years, retiring in 1979 as a Senior Engineering Analyst. He was a member of the Batavia Covenant Church. During his residence in Moline, he was a member of the First Congregational Church.
He is survived by sons James Fryxell and his wife Laverne of Sequim, Washington, and Bruce Fryxell of Ann Arbor, Michigan; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
